The best podcast hosting for a business is a self-serve platform with every show and colleague on one account and IAB-certified downloads: Captivate, Libsyn or Simplecast, or Transistor without the certification. Megaphone fits only a show that sells advertising. Choosing a host is easy. Who owns the feed is the part that is hard to undo.
A podcast host is the service that stores a show’s audio files and publishes the RSS feed that Apple Podcasts, Spotify and every other app read. Listeners never see it. Every download, every analytics figure and every move to a new platform runs through it.

What podcast hosting do business podcasts use?

Megaphone carries the largest share of established business podcasts, followed by Transistor, Simplecast, Spotify for Creators and Libsyn. Buzzsprout, the default pick in most hosting roundups, hosts none of them.
| Host | Business and company shows | Still publishing | Shows on it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Megaphone | 17 | 13 | Invest Like the Best, Marketing Against The Grain, Equity, Goldman Sachs’ Exchanges |
| Transistor | 8 | 7 | Acquired, Cheeky Pint, The Dave Gerhardt Show, HPE’s Technology Now |
| Simplecast | 8 | 5 | The a16z Show, Shopify Masters, Charles Schwab’s Choiceology |
| Spotify for Creators | 8 | 3 | BUILDERS, Run the Numbers |
| Libsyn | 6 | 5 | The Twenty Minute VC, Topline, Google’s Search Off the Record, Inside Trader Joe’s |
| Captivate | 4 | 1 | The So What from BCG |
| ART19 | 2 | 2 | The CMO Podcast, The Stack Overflow Podcast |
| Buzzsprout | 0 | 0 | |
| Others | 11 | 3 | Lenny’s Podcast on Substack, Sharp Tech on its own domain |
Megaphone’s lead is a story about advertising. It is Spotify’s enterprise platform, sold through a sales conversation and built around dynamic ad insertion and an ad marketplace. The shows on it are the ones with sponsors and networks behind them: Colossus, TechCrunch, HubSpot’s podcast network. A company show with no ad inventory pays for machinery it never turns on.
Every host carrying more than two shows has live and stopped shows on it, Megaphone included: NVIDIA’s AI podcast has published nothing since June. The host does not keep a show alive. The commitment behind it does.
Which podcast host should a company choose?
A company that does not sell ads should choose a self-serve host with unlimited shows, multiple team seats and IAB-certified download counts. The deciding questions are about the company: whether it sells ads, what it reports upward, and who will run the show in three years.
| If the company… | Choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Runs one or more shows with no ad sales | Captivate, Libsyn, Simplecast or Transistor | Self-serve, team access, several shows on one account |
| Sells sponsorship or belongs to a network | Megaphone, ART19 or Simplecast’s ad tier | Dynamic ad insertion and certified ad delivery counts |
| Reports downloads to leadership against benchmarks | An IAB-certified host | Downloads counted to the same rules as every published benchmark |
| Wants an employee-only show | Transistor or Captivate | Private feeds with individual subscriber access |
| Expects the show to outlive the agency or the person running it | Any host that serves the feed from a company domain | The company can change host without anyone’s permission |
Features change by plan tier, so compare the tier a company would buy rather than the brand:
| Host | IAB certified | Shows per account | Team access | Private feeds | Dynamic ads |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Captivate | Yes | Unlimited | Yes | All plans | Dynamic content on all plans |
| Libsyn | Yes | Not stated | Up to five users per podcast | Not listed | Sales-led tiers |
| Simplecast | Yes | Multiple | Two seats on the entry plan, four on the next | Not listed | Professional plan |
| Transistor | No | Unlimited | Unlimited | 50 to 3,000 subscribers by plan | Upper two plans |
| Megaphone | Yes | Contact sales | Contact sales | Not listed | Core product |
| Buzzsprout | Yes | Up to 10 on multi-show plans | Listed as a premium feature | Not listed | Not listed |
Does the podcast host change your download numbers?
Yes, and that is the reason certification matters to a business. IAB Tech Lab’s podcast measurement guidelines define which requests count as a download: bots and data centres are filtered out, repeat requests from the same IP address and app within 24 hours count once, and a request has to fetch at least a minute of audio. A certified host counts the way every published benchmark counts.
A host outside that list can report a figure that is accurate by its own rules and still not comparable. That gap shows up in the budget review, when a show’s numbers are set against a normal number of podcast downloads taken from certified sources. Megaphone, Simplecast, Libsyn, Captivate, ART19, Buzzsprout, Omny Studio and Substack are on the compliant list. Transistor, Spotify for Creators, Riverside, Zencastr and Wistia are not.
Certification says nothing about how well a host stores files. It makes the number defensible in a room where someone else chose the benchmark.
Is Spotify for Creators good enough for a business?
For a trial, yes. For a show the company intends to run for years, the question that matters is who controls the account. Spotify for Creators, formerly Anchor, carries real shows: BUILDERS and Run the Numbers publish on it every week.
What it lacks for a business is narrower than it looks. Its download counts are not IAB certified, so they will not line up with the benchmarks a budget review uses. And the account sits with whoever signed up. When that person leaves, the company finds out who owned the show.
Can you switch podcast hosts later?

Yes, without losing subscribers, provided the old host will redirect. The move takes four weeks of overlap.
- Import every episode into the new host with its original GUID. Changed GUIDs duplicate episodes in apps and break analytics.
- Ask the old host to set a 301 redirect from the old feed URL to the new one. On Spotify for Creators this is a setting on the web version, and it takes up to seven days to complete.
- Confirm the new feed carries the
itunes:new-feed-urltag, and keep both the tag and the redirect in place for at least four weeks.
The step that fails is the second one, because it depends on a login. An agency that set up the account, an employee who has left, an account under a personal email: any of them can turn a routine move into a relaunch with zero subscribers.
Charles Schwab avoids the dependency entirely. Choiceology’s feed lives at feeds.schwab.com, served by Simplecast underneath. If Schwab changes host, it repoints its own domain and nobody has to grant a redirect. Ask whether a host can serve the feed from a company domain before choosing it, because moving to one later needs the same redirect it exists to avoid.
How to set up podcast hosting for a company
Open the account under a shared company address and a company payment method, before anyone records anything. Then, in order:
- Point the feed at a company subdomain if the host supports it, so the company owns the URL every app subscribes to.
- Choose an IAB-certified host if downloads will be reported upward.
- Add at least two people from the company as account owners, plus the agency or producer as a user with less access.
- Put the second show, the internal show and the limited series on the same account, so the company can see them all in one place.
